Transportation

Airport transfer companies – there are many companies and their prices vary. The most used are Inter Habit, DAT, Transport airport-hotel-airport , AmstarClub Caribe and IBK . Most of them you can check their prices and book online.

Taxi – usually about the same price like transfer companies. Some of the drivers, specially the ones driving around the airports and tourist areas speak English and can be a  private tour guide as well.  But make sure you negotiate the price before you get to the car. If you don’t,  the price might be little   higher by the time you get to your destination.

Gua-gua – minivan / mini bus that stops wherever you need, even in the middle of an intersection. This is the most used form of travel here for longer distances. It is much cheaper then taxi, but you might end up traveling with more people then the vehicle is designed for. They run only till sunset.

Motoconcho – moto taxi is the most popular and cheapest short distance transportation in Dominican Republic. The drivers are very skilled and can carry almost anything on their bikes (fridge, washing machine) , but  it’s not recommended to take it for longer rides because it’s not the safest.

Bus – the best to move between cities if you are not in a rush,  they stop in every village on the route. Two big companies Metro and Caribe Tours provide the express transportation between major cities in nice comfortable air conditioned buses, so we would recommend to take a sweater and long pants for the ride.

Car rental – mostly used by independent travelers, that want to see the country on their own schedule.  The daily rates start at 40 USD for a small car.
